What Does Success Really Mean?

What is success?

In order to be able to measure your success, you must first create a scale that fits your goals, ambition, and dreams.

For a driven entrepreneur, the pinnacle of success might mean creating one profitable venture after another for the length of their career. For a third-generation family member inheriting a legacy business, perhaps success means achieving current market leadership in their business sector. The definition of success is difference for everyone, and in order to achieve it, you must know your own scale of success.

No matter your scale, there are a few fundamental truths about success that can help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.

IFC success quotes

1. Success begins in your mind.

As motivational speaker, success coach, and best-selling author Brendon Burchard explains, “To elevate your level of success, first you must lift your level of thinking.”

Ask yourself:

– How do you manage your life?

– How do you manage your day?

– How many times a day do you refocus your mind on your goals?

“Let learning the things you don’t yet know or understand become your job.”Brendon Burchard

2. Optimism

The Mayo Clinic defines ‘optimism’ as “the belief that good things will happen to you and that negative events are temporary setbacks to be overcome.”

When you meet each day and tackle the obstacles it brings with indispensable optimism, you keep success on the horizon and your dreams directly in your field of view.

3. Confidence

Henry Ford’s famous quote still rings true, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t — you’re right.”

When you understand and appreciate the intricacies of your own success scale, you can confidently walk in the direction of your dreams. Since you know where you want to go, and what it will take to get there, have confidence in your ability to achieve your vision.

This confidence shines through into all aspects of business, and life.

4. Drive

As Huffington Post author Carolyn Gregoire writes, “What makes success meaningful is the sweat, tears, love and care we put into our work, day in and day out.”

Motivation impacts every aspect of our lives and businesses. Psychologist and professor at the University of San Francisco Jim Taylor, Ph.D. explains that that motivation can come from a variety of places, and that we can achieve the best results by creating positive drive from within ourselves.

Dr Taylor explains, “Prime motivation means working hard consistently under the most challenging conditions. It involves doing everything possible to achieve your professional goals.”
